At the Movies in 2009

Filed under: alan — Alan Luu @ 4:26 am

These are three dates I will most definitely be sitting in a movie theatre in 2009:

March 6, 2009 - Watchmen
July 17, 2009 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
December 18, 2009 - Avatar

use your heart as grandly as you use your mind

Filed under: alan — Alan Luu @ 4:12 pm

The internet is just an interesting place, you can find just about ANYTHING. as a follower myself and someone who can’t help but think think think, I know it’s rare to find an “intellectual” Christian. surprised was i to find a blog online visited by exactly that…it was full of intellectual-types and of course they do what they love to do, which is debate. and like any online debate, it was pretty juvenile — would remind you of high school a bit.

but i was surprised to realize most of them were Christians…but as i read more, i realized they were pretty cold, hard Christians, and sexists to boot.

it led me to write that last poem, “IQ.” and i couldn’t help but leave two posts on the blog where they were making fun of feminists (and perhaps women in general?), the second one being:

“i am just going to make one more post because i do not want to be pulled into a debate, but for those of you who posted scripture about Jesus ranting at the Pharisees, do you even realize why Jesus disagreed (and disagreed is a faint word for what he felt) with the Pharisees?

It was because they were prideful and full of themselves, and He saw how they loved themselves and their own righteousness…He knew they did not love others, and especially not “sinners”…and they questioned Jesus himself and disrespected Jesus because Jesus ate with sinners

it’s simple, you can pull and distort scripture all you want to back up your belief that you can sit there and judge and insult sinners or those less enlightened than yourself, but the greatest commandment is to love God, and the second greatest is to love each other…and yes, scripture also says to not judge, but to love

you pull people into the kingdom with your heart, not by using your intellect and judgements as a blunt weapon…pray, ask God to teach you how to use your heart as grandly as you use your mind”

Words cannot express the slow emptying of hope in my heart
When I see the venom in intellectual discourse
Has anyone ever invented such a run-around
As genius-gladiators proudly waving their pole arms?

They cut with blade and wait not to see the pain in their foe’s eyes
They are cut and do not hesitate to examine their own wounds
To process the mortality of their shallow beliefs
They, nay, WE - slash and bait and smash

Hatred is reserved for those who do not agree with us
And we are ready to defy the second greatest law
Over intellectual property which has been declared worthless
For the fools know it all, and the wise know nothing at all

In other words, we are fools when we grasp for the recognition of our prowess
We are fools when we boast that we understand
Our understanding is merely a drop in the ocean
Our understanding is a piss-covered mirror

And we stare lovingly at ourselves between the amber cracks
We stare lovingly at ourselves between the amber cracks

Slow Rotation

Filed under: alan — Alan Luu @ 12:51 am

The slow rotation of this earth
Allows my thoughts to simmer
My emotions to have free roam
Without a leash or accountability
My dreams are on a low burn
As the world slowly turns
And I wonder if they will harden and carbonize
On the steady flame

The air is thick on a night like tonight
And the nation celebrates its independence
By parking far, and walking down sidewalks
To get a good view of lights in the air
Sparks
Explosions in the sky that are more dramatic
Than anything in our minds
We seek outbursts, we seek outburst

I seek independence
We all search far and wide for freedom
From each other
For each other
But the truth is we are tied forever
To each other
Our dreams are the same
And on a slow burn as the world turns

June 8th - Love is the Context

Filed under: alan — Alan Luu @ 2:44 am

I’m writing, conceiving, directing a 1/2 hour drama and dance production this Sunday during some of the Mosaic gatherings: Pasadena at 9:30am and the Mayan at 6:00 and 8:00pm. If nothing else, it’s going to be a visual feast, but hopefully it’ll be a nice emotional experience also — I’m describing it as a mindtrip.

So yes my last couple of weeks has been dominated by this. And many, many hours of work remain the rest of this week leading up to Sunday. Check it out if you can. For more info on locations, etc, for Mosaic, go to mosaic.org
